Ranunculus sardous
Family : Ranunculaceae
Hairy Buttercup
8/119 : Native
This Buttercup is almost certainly under-recorded. Pipeline work near Ennerdale, just east of the river, in 1999/2000 seems to have disturbed an old seed bank producing huge quantities of this plant. Interestingly, one of the few local specimens of R. sardous held in the Hull University Herbarium was collected from near here. Exposure to the plant in such great quantities has provided recorders with the confidence to identify isolated specimens in other parts of the city.

J F Robinson 1902: "Frequent ... a glabrous form near the docks."

Herbarium material: HLU : Haltemprice Lane, Cottingham 1936 {A K Wilson}; Sutton Road Bridge (Ennerdale) 1957 {E J Torey}. HLL : Hull 1936 {A K Wilson}.
